Hi everyone,
Thought I would introduce myself. I've been a pugalug fan for quite a few years now. I have 2 pugs, Pickle a 3 year old fawn male & Cricket a 2 year old black female. My husband and I live outside of Cambridge and I work at a vet clinic in Guelph. I'm also currently a vet tech student at Ridgetown College, through the alternative delivery. I learned quite a bit about pugs from Peggy Allen, who I worked with about 3 years ago at Ren's Pets Depot. She has quite the pug pack!
We got Pickle from a breeder who used to be located in Stratford but now lives even closer to us in Guelph. Cricket we adopted next from pugalug's sister rescue Under my wing pug rescue. We drove all the way to Ottawa to get our little girl. She and her sister ended up at the rescue when their elderly owner passed away. Unfortunately the poor puppies had been left alone for a few days in the apartment before the neighbours realized what happened. Luckily she doesn't appear to suffer from any long term trauma and is a fearless little weasel of a pug
I'll probably be picking your brains about medical topics. Pickle was diagnosed with IMHA about 2 months ago. It was a really traumatic experience that I wouldn't wish on anybody. After several days of hospitalization and an emergency blood transfusion he pulled through. He's doing quite well right now but we are just trying to work on his dosages for his medications as he's been having some gastrointestinal side effects. My vet has been working hard doing research to figure out which way is best to taper his drugs, there's so many different protocols out there! It's been a huge learning experience, which if anyone has gone through a similar experience I'd be happy to chat with you about it.
I'm happy to see that many of the discussions here are pro raw, as well as towards minimal vaccines and a more natural approach to health. I love talking about nutrition, as well as training so I think I will have a lot of fun here. I'm looking forward to making some new friends:)
I'll warn you I love taking pictures of my dogs and seeing pictures of other peoples pugs too!
Best Regards Shannon, Pickle & Cricket
