I think I've only been a member here for about a week or so but I take time out of my day everyday and read a thread or two. Can I tell you that already i have learned soooooo much. I had no idea about the collar thing. Meho was always wearing his collar. Also though I found out that some of the concerns I have are the same concerns that most pug owners have and that I am not alone.
We almost bought a pug from Petland in Winnipeg when we first became interested in getting a pug but luckily we spent a good year researching the breed and learned that it was better to find a reputable breeder (and even better a reputable rescue!).
Thanks for all the info you have here!

Hilary, maybe this thread isn't the place but I'm wondering what's the scoop on doggie doors? We don't have one strictly because of the home security issue. A doggie door is a convenience so they can go outside by themselves. It's a very bad idea to allow the pugs to be outside unattended, even in a fully fenced yard. The dog can overheat/get too cold very quickly, can find an otherwise unknown breach in the fence and escape, be stolen, be taunted by children/teenagers or have objects thrown at them, be attacked by wild animals/birds, catch a diseased live animal, eat/roll-in a diseased/rotting dead animal/bird or be stung by a bee/wasp. All of these things can be averted or dealt with quickly if the owner is outside with the dog. Thanks Hilary! It's so obvious once someone explains it I never bothered to think it through since we don't have or want one.

Hi Everyone,
Hope this post works, a little technologically challenged I am. Have been been a guest on the Pugalug Forum for about three years now and have been a member of the 613 Pugaluggers here in Quinte area for about the same time. Have two precious Pug girls, one just over four years old and the other rescued so we're guessing her age to be between seven and nine years old. Have felt connected to the Forum for a while and to those of you who post regularly but recently when I found myself crying for each of the dear ones who have gone to the Bridge and for the last few days feeling concerned when we hadn't heard about Anna and Nick's new baby I knew it was time to join in. Like others I have learned a great deal from all of you seasoned Pugaluggers and am grateful. When I count my blessings my two Pug girls are right up there near the top of my list. Joanne

Welcome Joanne and your pug girls - please post some pictures when you are more comfortable with the technology - it is not too bad once you get the hang of it.
Love to hear more details about your girls too.

My name is Shannon and Geeg came from a BYB via an add on Kijiji. All i can say is, i'm glad i got her and not someone else. Her former owner said all the right things but didn't even make sure Geeg was fixed- i could have set up my own mill operation for all she cared. Geeg is weird but geting better all the time and i've definitley learned a lot and know better now.

Thanks everyone for a very warm welcome. And Hillary, thanks to you, I finally joined in.
You were asking about our girls - we have two precious Pugs, Winnie who is fawn, almost four and a half years now and we bought her from a byb before we knew any better. She is an independent thinker with attitude and has a very sensitive spirit. She loves other dogs and is looking forward to the Pugtoria in May.
And then there is Sasha Rosaleen, one amazing little girl, who is black and it took me three months, almost three years ago, to negotiate her way out of a deplorable situation. My plan then was to give her up to Pugalug Pug Rescue but I was an interim foster failure and couldn't let her go. Larry had made the arrangement for a foster home but as time got closer to drive her there, we couldn't give her up. Before she came to us, Sasha had had many litters of puppies and so now she treats Winnie as if she is her puppy. She grooms her, plays with her and disciplines her as she sees fit. Sasha has some health challenges.
The Pugs have changed our lives and they go almost everywhere with us because we can't bear the looks on their faces when they're left behind. When my husband and I are at work, my 84 year old Mom comes to take care of her GrandPugs. We feel blessed to have them and some day I hope to have more.

Hello Everyone,
I am glad to finally join the forum - my husband and I recently adopted our first pug - Sanford - from Pugalug. We never even considered a breeder, and weren't even looking for a dog when I serendipitously came across Sanford's profile on the Pugalug site. We are truly grateful for organizations like Pugalug that help dogs find loving homes, regardless of their age. Though many would balk at the prospect of adopting a nine year old, I wouldn't trade him in for a puppy for anything! (No disrespect to puppy lovers out there...we are just so happy at the way having a retired guy around the house has turned out - so much better than expected and it feels good to see all those people who thought we were crazy slowly rapidly become charmed by our Sanford). Anyway, Sanford has been with us for about six weeks and all parties have adjusted extremely well. I would love to bring him to a Pug event - was thinking about this weekend - however he seems to really dislike car rides. We last tried in the second week that we had him, so maybe now that he is more settled it would be better, but if not - are there any new ideas out there on helping him get comfortable in the car?
