She is an awesome dog...now if we can figure out the peeing thing. She does her potty outside in the morning. Crate stays dry, then she goes out when I get home from work. Not even a couple hours later there is a massive puddle on the floor or (worse) soaked into the carpet in the bedroom. She is an absolute sweetie, and I know it is not incontinence or an infection...she holds fine overnight when in the big bed and in her crate. I diapered her last night, and she wet the diaper within an hour of putting it on...which was right after she went potty outside.

I understand rescues can "act out" and her last couple months have been an upheaval for her. Is there any hope of this coming to an end and me not being fined thousands for her destruction of the carpeting in my apartment?

Are you absolutely positive it isn't an infection or crystals or other issue?  If you haven't already, I'd be inclined to get a U/A done.  UTIs can manifest in lots of weird ways.  If she's not fully emptying her bladder when she goes out during the day, it may be building up and then emptying "spontaneously".  And I've had old dogs pee in a diaper because the fasteners put just enough pressure on the bladder area to express it.

I may have to....just took them all for a walk, and she went. I was changing the sheets and she just pissed all over my down comforter! Not even an hour later.  Right now I cannot even look at her. Right now I don't even want her anymore. I feel like a horrible person for saying that.  But I blew about 60 bucks getting it freshly cleaned and now I have to spend another 60 bucks on cleaning since she soaked it.

This makes me so sad.  Either it's an infection/crystals or an emotional/adjustment problem.  I tend towards the former.  In either case, she's not doing it intentionally and she needs help, not pulling back from her.  We rescue dogs to give them better lives and to love them for who they are and for the love they give us.  You need to find the cause and work with her to rectify it.  And until you do, you need to pee-proof your house and not set her up for failure, whether that be Bitches Britches, protective coverings where necessary and especially a vet visit/urinalysis.

My current foster gets bladder infections and crystals. It isn't her fault. When she is infection and crystal free, she does not EVER have an accident. When she has either an infection or crystals, she will pee in the house. They don't want to release it all and will do spurts or hold it and do a big pee.
Think about how you feel if you have a bladder infection. It is painful and hurts to pee.
In my foster's case, it is a long term issue that hadn't been dealt with, so it is taking longer to clear up.
With your dog, it could be a one time thing. It may cost a bit for the test and cure, but then she will be a happy girl. Most likely it is an issue that she can't control. She isn't doing it on purpose.

The advice you have been given is solid; nothing to add to that; but...

I have learned over the years that down comforters can be washed and dried in the machines.  Throw them in with mild detergent, maybe a bit of vinegar for good measure, no fabric softener, and you are good to go.

I diapered her last night, and she slept with the other dogs. No accidents in the diaper. I don't like to crate unless I am at work, it gives her some diaper respite and she does not pee in the crate. She is not wild about the diaper. This morning she followed me around the house with that Kewpie doll look she has; I picked her up and held her and told her she was not going anywhere, that Mommy is not feeling well either (mom caught a cold that is getting worse), and will call the vet to have her checked. I wish she understood me sometimes.

I guess I should buy stock in dog pampers, or learn to make them out of kid diapers (though the doggy ones stay dry against her skin in case of accidents.) And will pick up some quarters and head to the laundromat with the comforter; I washed a down throw and it was fluffier and smelled better than dry cleaning. My washer is not big enough for a comforter though.

Nothing that a good night's sleep and the sweet snuggle of a pug can't fix.

I bet all of us who rescue have had "days like that".

Here is to a better one today!!

Good luck at the vet; please keep us posted.

I woke up sicker but resolved not to take things out on her. Candace, I do love me some Emi, but that is an "eyes wide open" adoption...what you read is what you get. I was told she was healthy with no HB issues and have had nothing but issues. However, her face kills me every time--she has those huge eyes and follows me constantly. She looks at me like she completely adores me and I do want to help her, whatever the problem is. I have not seen symptoms of UTI (no blood or stink) but I have seen indicators that it is a possibility like the peeing and the addiction to the water bowl.  She will likely see the doc on Monday and we can take it from there. In the meantime she will be diapered so she can have run of the house while I am home.

I hope the vet can find something that can be resolved easily. It can be frustrating, for sure. It's okay to get it out, we all need to do that!

Well, word on another board with someone who knows this little girl said she was beginning to adjust to new surroundings, when I came along and adopted her and started that all over again. Perhaps her age has her in a bit of a tizzy.  I have diapered her when she is out of her crate and there are no diaper accidents (I only crate her when I am at work.)  I will still take her to the vet and see if perhaps it is a UTI, but it is sounding more and more like acting out of a very old pug girl who is sort of lost.

I hope it has all worked out.  Pugs as so precious.  They love unconditionally, it is so sweet.  I am sure she will give you lots of love and enjoyment in return for whatever you do for her.  She will be well worth it all.

Well, I know when we had my mum and her dog staying with us for a while, my sweet old Belle acted out by hopping up and peeing all over Mum's bed.  Absolutely deliberately.

For Belle in general too much change leads to little "meltdowns".

Years ago our Maltese made her displeasure quite clear.  When my Great Aunt visited from England Duchess decided she was NOT a welcome guest and so she made her displeasure known by crapping in the middle of my Aunt's bed - twice.  Unfortunately for me, my Great Aunt was staying in MY room at the time so it was really MY bed...... Update: Lil girl got extremely sick last weekend and was running a 104.7 temp. Turns out her teeth hit the breaking point; poor thing has some serious yuckmouth that went systemic. A round of clindamycin knocked out the systemic infection and as we speak she should be in post op from removing this rotten and broken tooth and getting a full cleaning. Vet has not called so no news is good news (nothing found on pre-op labs except high liver values so the urinary system should be fine.)

She pooped on my bath mat while I was showering after pooping a huge pile outside. I believe her majesty was not happy about not getting breakfast. Cheesy
