Sometimes living with the vision/hearing impaired is interesting, to say the least. Hazel is eyeless and Theo is deaf (with only one eye with not great vision). So this morning I hear Hazel barking her head off. I go to investigate and she has discovered that Theo is in a dog bed that she, apparently, must have. Usually she just squashes whoever is in "her" bed, but today she decided to bark him out. Good idea, except he's deaf as a post. He's sound asleep, she's barking her head off and I can feel the headache building.
The two of them are like bumper cars. Hazel can't see him and he can't hear her coming so they ricochet off of each other regularly. Tucker and I were watching the two of them play "Bumper car dogs" in the yard this morning and every time one or the other banged into each other, Tucker and I would say "Boink", "Bing", "Slammo".
Lola can be a bad barker, but has been pretty good usually. However, since her dental she has been a barking FIEND. She did have one fractured tooth removed and I suspect she was so quiet because the fractured tooth was painful when she barked. Well, no longer. she has lots to say. and she says it often and loudly.
Tank just looks at all of them like "Why do I have to live with these lunatics?"

Know what you mean as the two noah and sheba are blind and deaf and it's little sheba who makes herself known barking her head off at noah and he just lays there snoring away,it is funny to watchas she even stomps her little paws i laugh so hard they are funny. When i take them out it's like you say bump and go pugs quite amusing most days the other two just stare at them guess they find it amusing also.I love my seniors though they have so much love as i say they have such a big heart for such a little body.

Do you ever have the urge to film your pugs and play it back double time with Yakety Sax playing over top, a la Benny Hill?

Great story! What a comedy team you have (without them knowing it! ) Barking at our house has also escalated since Pugsley's surgery .....we were out for a walk this morning and Pugsley know barks at everyone and everything that moves. Dave tries to stop her by raising his front paw, jumping on her back which then gets her going even more. I have had people cross the street when they see me coming down the sidewalk. One lady asked me if the cone was to stop her biting. I hope she calms down soon....the winking one eyed viscious cone dog is scaring the neighbourhood!

LOL: poor Tank it just doesn't pay to have all your senses. Not in this house, at least And Amanda--you may find that this is a "cone and ulcer" induced bark and might stop after she has the cone off and the eyelid open.

I also think Pugsley is barking more because of her limited vision / cone - Maude barked more also. I think it’s the combination of no depth and no peripheral vision.

The two of them are like bumper cars. Pug vs terrier collisions is what causes most of our scrapping. Honestly, no more females.

It's back to Dr. Klys for us on Friday and hope to get the eye unstitched next week Then half the problem will be solved!

Good luck with the appointment Friday - and she probably will bark less when she can see better.

The vision may make the difference to know who or what is approaching?

LOL! okay the 17 yr old, Pugsley, barks at the walls, the cupboards, the water dish, Bubba sleeping on the bed, Oma's leg, my leg, the chair leg, the couch, the table, the corner of the room when he gets stuck or in between furniture, the gate, the stove, the tv stand, under the dining room table ........... Bubba just goes to sleep and ignores everything unless Pugsley happens to start barking when Bubba is sound asleep then that becomes the bugle alert and Bubba jumps up cause there is "danger" lurking and they both are going at it .......... Yep, seniors are priceless

It is interesting and funny but, what is really funny is when your pug goes under the christmas tree and you are standing there telling him no,no get out of there you" and have a moment to get the brain in forward because your giving orders to a deaf pug who CAN NOT HEAR YOU,and the sad thing is you also have done that with the other pug who is DEAF to,so sad.
