They say pugs are big dogs in a small body, but Lola was a giant dog in a petite body. Our condolences for your tremendous loss. She will be like Cerberus guarding the rainbow bridge.

I've been offline for a couple of days and I was surprised and saddened to see this thread. It's true that our time with our pets is never long enough, and the best thing to do is to listen to them when they tell us that it's time to say good-bye, as difficult as that may be. Lola was fortunate that her mom knew and understood this. I've enjoyed reading the Lola tales and I'm going to miss them. I had the pleasure of meeting Lola and and couldn't believe that such a sweet little dog could be characterized as the Death Pom. She was always a perfect lady whenever I saw her. Perhaps that was part of her grand design. She's probably already whipping things into shape at the Bridge. Those of us on this side will always have the memories of the legend that was Lola. A candle will be lit tonight for her.
Sincere condolences,
Ben&Brent

Thanks everyone. To be honest, I kind of thought she'd beat the mortality odds, myself. But we've been struggling for a couple of weeks now and when she (1) stopped eating anything, (2) couldn't balance herself to excrete and kept falling into it, and (3) most tellingly, didn't even want to snark Pippin when he came up and bugged her the other day, I knew we were done.
I handled it all very well until I came home and started to put her stuff away--the ugly runners so she could navigate the floors, the X-pen that she ate in so the other dogs wouldn't steal from her, her little flowered blue harness--then I lost it and sobbed in the hallway with a dog bowl and an ugly rug in my arms.
I keep waiting to hear her imperious bark demanding my services. Checking under furniture for the tell tale gleam of shiny pom teeth getting ready to launch out at a trespasser. This first week is always the hardest for me as I adjust to the sudden gap in the zeitgeist of the house.
Wherever she is, she's whole, happy and mean as a stepped on snake and that's how I'll remember her. When the gods made Lola, they broke the mold. Thank goodness.

I'm just reading this now. I'm so so sorry Blanche. She may have been a tiny tyrant but your love for Lola shone through in all the wonderful stories you've told, and I know she took that love with her to the Bridge. Hugs to you and your family. A candle is lit in Burlington for Lola. Run free little one.

I can't even find the words to express how deeply I empathize with your loss, Blanche. I've been keeping to myself the last few weeks, and began weeping openly as I read about Lola.
Lola - the little spitfire, has gone on to join the other one eyed, crackerjack of a pom Toddy, at the Rainbow Bridge. I shudder to think what the two of them are getting up to...
Years ago, when you visited the OSPCA, unwittingly, you found yourself a 'heart dog'; a truly rare gem which defies all logic and is beyond explanation. Oddly enough I totally understand it. You gave The Death Pom more patience, love and understanding than she had ever known in her wee life. She knew she had found someone who truly understood her, and that is why she became your little 'heart dog'.
Little Lola - the Original Feminist Pom; run fast and free.

So sorry Blanche. She is no doubt Poming the masses and the bridge may just be a wee tad unsettled for awhile as she settles into her role...of pompass pom. You did good Blanche and the Death Pom enjoyed a full life of straight man hating and proving what a real dog is....A candle is lit in Belleville.
