Bella is beautiful and sweet. She is also your typical velcro pug that she needs to follow
wherever you go and be on your lap if you are sitting. However, with time, she will, on
occasion, become comfortable enough to nap while you are in the other room. Bella can
follow basic commands such as sit, come and leave it. She loves to snuggle and play tug.

She is fully house trained, but in true pug fashion, you need to make sure she goes potty
during inclement weather as she will try to cheat by coming inside before she’s done.

At this time, there are no medical issues that we are concerned about. When she first
arrived at Pugalug, Bella did have a stone in her bladder, which was surgically removed.
She has been healthy ever since. Currently, Bella eats a grain free diet, but this is not
required as she has no issues eating treats with grains. She would likely do well on any
high quality diet.

Bella does have a couple of behaviours that will affect who can adopt her. First off,
when she wants to play, she will nip at your feet, ankles or hands. I’ve been working
with her on this by telling her no and turning away. Her adopters will need to continue
working on the issue and Pugalug is happy to provide tips on how to help. Because of
the nipping, Bella is not a good fit for homes with children, but we would consider a
home with dog-savvy teens.

Along with kids, Bella is also not a good fit for homes with dogs as she gets jealous

when other dogs are getting attention that she believes should just be for her. Although

has not been around cats,  we believe it is best for Bella and potential cat siblings that

she be an only pet.

Bella is not an avid barker, but will bark when someone comes to the door. Although she
would love to have a fenced backyard to run in, she would be fine in a condo or
apartment with regular walks. She walks well on a leash, although does pull a bit when
she sees people and dogs. Her foster mom typically walks her every 4 hours. Wherever
Bella gets her exercise, she does enjoy finding “snacks” left by other animals, especially
bunnies and will need to be watched to ensure that doesn’t happen.

Bella also has no issues being left alone and has been left for as long as 5 hours.
Currently, she is crated when her foster parent leaves the house and at bedtime and
goes in her crate easily with a treat. We recommend keeping Bella crated when left
alone for at least the first few months while she settles in. At that time, her adopter(s)
can decide what is best for them and if they want to try leaving her loose when alone.

For bedtime, we have no doubt that Bella would love to join her adopter(s) in the Big
Bed, but is completely comfortable sleeping in a crate if her adopter(s) prefers that.
Bella has been a pleasure to take care of and she will be missed. I think that she will
adapt well to a new home without much concern. She loves attention and will be best
suited to a home that can give her all the attention she requires and deserves. Anyone
would be lucky to have this girl as a part of their family.

FOSTER UPDATED - JANUARY 12, 2026

Bella continues to make wonderful progress in her foster home, and it’s been lovely to see how much she’s come into her own. The surgery she had has made a huge difference for her and she’s clearly feeling much more comfortable and confident.

Bella’s three favourite things in the world are food, walks, and curling up on her foster mom’s lap. She’s a very affectionate girl who enjoys being close to her people.

On walks, Bella does quite well overall. She can pull a little on leash — especially if a squirrel dares to cross her path — but she responds nicely when told to “leave it.” She greets other dogs calmly and without any aggression, which has been great to see.

Bella is a sweet, loving companion who is settling in beautifully and showing just how much she has to offer her future family.

FOSTER UPDATE - NOVEMBER 25, 2025

✨ Bella Update! ✨

Bella continues to settle into her foster home and is showing more of her personality every day. She’s a sweet girl with lots of energy and a playful, goofy side. She does have a bit of a bratty streak…when she’s in the mood to play, she’ll sometimes nip at her foster mom’s feet for attention (ouch!). They’re working on redirecting her and practicing “sit,” which helps most of the time.

Bella is a classic velcro pug and a stage 5 clinger 😂 If you’ve seen Wedding Crashers, you’ll get the reference. She always wants to be touching her person and loves being close.

She knows “sit” and comes when called. She can also be a little jealous with other dogs if she feels she’s not getting enough attention and may prefer being the only dog in the home.

Bella has lots of pep and loves to play! ❤️

FOSTER UPDATE - NOVEMBER 1, 2025

Bella had her surgery on October 7th to be spayed and have a bladder stone removed. She's doing great! She’s like a new dog now, full of energy, playful, and loving her walks. Bella is also thrilled to be going for car rides again! It’s rare for her to have an accident in the house, and while she hasn’t done much socializing yet, she’s happy to meet other dogs on her walks. We’re so glad to see her feeling so much better! 🐾💪

FOSTER UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 3O, 2025

Bella is settling into her foster home and starting to feel comfortable in her new surroundings 💕. She’s a little sweetheart who loves her walks 🚶‍♀️—her foster takes her out three times a day, weather permitting and she’s affectionate and loving once she feels at ease 🥰. While she’s not a fan of her crate, she settles quickly and is adjusting well overall.

Bella recently visited the vet 🩺 for a full work-up, including a physical exam, blood work, fecal test, and urinalysis. She was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, and her urine sample has been sent for culturing to determine the best antibiotic 💊. The vet also discovered that Bella has one large bladder stone. Fortunately, it’s smooth and shouldn’t be causing her pain, though it likely explains her frequent urge to urinate. The plan is to remove the stone at the same time as her spay surgery, which we hope to schedule as soon as possible 🐶💗.

Despite her medical needs, Bella’s sweet nature shines through 🌟. She’s affectionate, loves getting attention, and is enjoying her daily walks 🦋. She’s in good hands and being very well cared for as she settles into her new life ❤️.

INTRODUCTION - SEPTEMBER 27, 2025

Introducing Bella!

Bella, a sweet 5-year-old pug, arrived safely in her foster home thanks to the care and support of human friends and a Pugalug volunteer driver, who ensured she got to where she needed to be. Her owner, facing challenges, made the thoughtful decision to put Bella’s needs first so she could receive the veterinary care she requires. 💜

Now safe in foster care, Bella is settling in nicely and sleeping well. She enjoys her walks (though she’s a bit of a puller!) and is adjusting well to her new routine. She loves spending time outside crawling around in the grass and giving plenty of kisses and snuggles. 🐾

Bella is very much a lap dog who loves to cuddle, but when she gets warm she stretches out on the floor to cool off. Bella is also dealing with a bladder infection and will be visiting the vet this week for care. She will need to be spayed in the near future. 🩺

We’ll share more about Bella’s personality and quirks as she continues to settle in. 🌸
