Medical issues? Before rescue, Odin had a respiratory issue. No issues now.

Behaviour issues? Great with other dogs, people and cats. Suffers from separation anxiety,
but once he learns the routines of his surroundings, it subsides
Good with kids? Yes
Good with other dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Yes
Housing? Due to his separation anxiety, a detached home would be best
Crated? None used while in care
Home alone? Once he feels safe in his surroundings, he is fine to be left for a work day. Initially
though he suffers from separation anxiety as he becomes very attached to his people.
House training? Good
Sleep with humans? That is his preference.

When Odin first arrives at his new home, he likes to present himself as a refined, older
gentleman, but once he is comfortable with his surroundings, he will start to show his young
and goofy self. He is a playful boy who is passionate about recycling water and pop bottles by
repurposing them as his favourite toys. Odin also loves liver treats and a good chew on a bully
stick.

One thing that Odin doesn’t like is being picked up…unless he wants something of course!
In that case, he will happily help you pick him up by jumping up and down.
When Odin first arrived in his foster home, he struggled with all the changes. Thus, when his
foster family would leave for the day, he would cry for a lengthy period and try to get out of the
room he was in to find his foster family.

Odin did do some damage to a door in his attempts to escape the room that he was contained in during the day. He would also become so upset that his entire chest would be wet from saliva when his foster family would return home. It took Odin a couple of weeks before he started to calm down when left alone and after a month, he began realizing that his foster family was coming back for him. Now, when his foster family leaves for the day, he barely acknowledges their exit. He has become very confident in his foster home and is now a confident boy overall. His future family will need to have a plan to help ease Odin into his new home and manage his anxiety. Pugalug can provide strategies to help ease the transition.

Odin is a bit of a picky eater. Prior to coming to Pugalug, he would demand extra toppings on
his kibble. Unfortunately, like us humans, those extra toppings went straight to his waistline
and his foster family has been working hard to get him back into tip top shape with a new diet
and exercise regimen. Although it did take Odin some time to adjust to kibble without yummy
extras, he now eats it without complaint! He does prefer to have company while he eats so his
future family will need to accommodate that request. He may also refuse to eat when he first
arrives due to anxiety, but that will pass once he settles in. Odin enjoys puzzle boards as well
and his foster family will often put his kibble in them for some mealtime enrichment. This may
also encourage him to eat if he’s reluctant.

Odin is always up for an adventure! He loves to go on walks and be included in anything his
people are doing. He is the kind of dog that you can bring everywhere. He is not freaked out by
crowds and gets along with all of the dogs, cats and people that he meets, including kids. Odin
is also an absolute gem in the car and thoroughly enjoys car rides with his people.
Odin is just a cute little boy who wants a home where he can enjoy his people and their laps. He
will fit in with any type of family (kids, current pets, or just adults) and while he has his initial
quirks, once he settles in, Odin will be the bestest boy.

FOSTER UPDATE - MARCH 3, 2026

Odin is doing incredibly well in foster care and continues to blossom into a happy, confident boy. One of the biggest wins? His separation anxiety has reduced significantly. Now that he understands the routine of his foster home, he’s much more relaxed when his people head out. Structure and predictability have made all the difference for this sweet guy.

This past weekend, Odin enjoyed a little adventure to visit his foster mom’s older daughter. While he wasn’t thrilled about climbing the stairs to her apartment, he quickly forgot all about them once he was showered with attention from her, her roommates and even their cats! He especially appreciated the lower beds in the apartment, which made hopping up for a cozy rest nice and easy.

The fun didn’t stop there. Odin also went shopping at a dog-friendly Canadian Tire store, where pups are welcome inside. He absolutely loved strolling the aisles and taking in all the sights and smells. Adventures clearly suit him!

He hasn’t had his vet check-up just yet, but that visit will be happening soon.

All in all, Odin is a very happy, social boy who truly enjoys getting out and about, meeting new people, and making new dog friends. We’re so proud of how far he’s come and can’t wait to see what adventure he heads out on next! 🐾

FOSTER UPDATE - FEBRUARY 3, 2026

When Odin first arrived in foster care, he was very quiet, so much so that our foster mom’s daughter thought he might be a little old gentleman. As he’s settled in, though, his playful side has really started to shine ✨ He’s discovered the joy of toys and now happily plays with them, and he proudly shows off his manners by sitting patiently and offering a paw for treats 🐾.

Odin has transitioned well onto a diet food. While he wouldn’t say no to a few extras mixed in, he’s adjusted nicely to kibble with the occasional treat 🍪.

He does experience some separation anxiety, but this is already improving as he learns the routines of his foster home 💕 He may cry briefly when his people leave or return, but it only lasts a few minutes, and we expect this will continue to lessen with time and consistency.

Despite the cold winter weather limiting his walks ❄️, Odin is always willing to head outside — though his little feet get cold quickly. He’s been joining his foster mom on outings to her daughter’s activities and has proven to be excellent in the car 🚗. He loves meeting new people and greets them with confidence and charm 😊.

Overall, Odin is a lovely, gentle soul and a confident little man who has been an absolute joy to have in foster care 🥰.

INTRODUCTION - JANUARY 19, 2026

🐾 Welcome to Pugalug, Odin! 🐾

Please help us welcome Odin, a 4.5-year-old male fawn pug who has just come into Pugalug care.

Odin is a gentle, affectionate boy who clearly adores being with his people. After settling into his foster home, it quickly became clear that he prefers companionship over quiet alone time and wants to be part of daily life. He’s adjusting well and already showing his sweet, loyal nature.

He’s doing very well in foster care, sleeping through the night (often draped across his foster mom’s feet), and has been calm and polite as he learns the routines of his new home. Odin has also been introduced to the (aggressively affectionate) resident cat and is handling those interactions nicely so far 🐾

Odin recently enjoyed a car ride to the pet food store, where he happily met new people and even picked out a treat of his own. He was an angel in the car, though he wasn’t a big fan of his seat belt 🚗

Potty breaks are going well, although this morning Odin felt that a 6:00 a.m. wake-up was completely unreasonable and attempted a “fake pee” so he could head back inside and continue sleeping. It’s safe to say Odin loves to sleep in 😴

Like many dogs entering rescue, Odin is understandably missing his people. He’s being given the time, comfort, and reassurance he needs as he settles in, and he is safe, loved, and well cared for while we get to know him better.

Welcome to Pugalug, sweet Odin 💙
