WHAT HAPPENS IN RESCUE?

At Pugalug Pug Rescue, every step of the rescue process is carefully designed to ensure the well-being of the pugs in our care. Here's how it works:

Transport
The rescue journey begins with a volunteer—or a team of volunteers—picking up the pug from its current owner or shelter and transporting it to a foster home. If the journey is short, a single driver can handle it. For longer distances, multiple volunteers coordinate transport, often with the help of other rescue organizations. Think of it as a dedicated “Underground Railroad” for dogs. Volunteers generously donate their time, gas, and effort to make this possible.

Fostering
Once a pug arrives at its foster home, the foster parent assumes responsibility for its care and health. This includes scheduling an initial vet visit to assess the pug’s medical needs. During their time in foster care:

  • Pugs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.

  • Any necessary medical treatments or surgeries are completed.

  • Behavioral and emotional evaluations are conducted to prepare them for adoption.

Foster parents provide updates for the Pugalug website and work closely with our team to ensure the pug is ready for its forever home. For pugs with chronic conditions, we carefully match them with families equipped to manage their ongoing care.

Adoption
When a foster family determines a pug is ready for adoption, they provide detailed information about the pug’s needs and personality, which is shared in the dog’s online bio. This bio includes:

  • The pug’s unique requirements.

  • The adoption fee.

  • A timeline for applications (the link becomes active five days after the bio is posted).

Potential adopters should review both the pug’s individual requirements and the general adoption guidelines listed on our “Adopt from Us” page.

The Application Process

  • Submit an Application: If you meet all the listed requirements, you can apply online.

  • Confirmation: Within 48 hours, you’ll receive a confirmation email with more details about the adoption process.

  • Screening: Suitable applications are forwarded to the foster family, who selects the top applicant.

The Final Steps

The top applicant is contacted, and if both parties feel confident, a home visit is arranged. The rescue pug may attend the visit unless the distance makes it impractical.

After the visit, everyone takes time to reflect. If the match feels right, adoption paperwork is completed, and the pug officially joins their new family. In cases where travel is a challenge, transport assistance may be arranged.

Adoption Updates

While we can’t contact every applicant, you can follow updates on the website. Once a home visit is arranged, it will be noted in the pug’s bio. After adoption, the pug’s story will move to our Happy Tails page, celebrating their journey to a loving forever home.

Thank you for supporting Pugalug and helping us provide these incredible pugs with the care and love they deserve!
