Dear Friends of Pugalug,
This holiday season, we want to introduce you to someone very special:
Lena, a young, sassy pug with a big personality, an even bigger spirit… and some expensive medical needs.
Lena arrived in Pugalug’s care full of wiggles, opinions, and zero awareness that anything might be “wrong” with her. And honestly? We kind of love that about her. She is bold. She is busy. She bosses around every dog she meets. She believes people exist primarily to adore her — and she’s not wrong.
But behind all that sass, Lena was quietly living with two painful congenital conditions:

A Grade 3 luxating patella (her kneecap slipping out of place)

Severely widened eyelid openings, requiring medial canthoplasty to protect her corneas.
These are fixable, and thanks to our incredible foster and veterinary teams, Lena is already on the road to a bright future.
But the costs are staggering.

Her knee surgery alone was over $6,100.

Her upcoming eye surgery will be another $4,000–$5,000.

By the time she’s ready for adoption, Lena will be a $10,000–$12,000 dog.
And she is absolutely worth every penny.
Right now, Lena is in recovery, which for a dog like her means convincing a very energetic, very opinionated little bee that “resting” is a thing. Her foster parent describes the process as “a massive job… she feels great and thinks I’m a big joy-squasher.”
She is doing physio, strengthening her leg, practicing careful exercise, preparing for her canthoplasty surgery, and reminding us daily why we do this work.
But we can’t do it without you.
This holiday season, we’re asking our community to come together to help cover Lena’s lifesaving medical care so she can grow up pain-free, see clearly, and finally find her forever home.
