Maverick is a very happy boy who loves his people, his toys, and most importantly, his brother
Sky. He MUST be adopted with his brother as he tends to draw courage and comfort from him.
Maverick is an absolute velcro pug and loves to throw himself onto his chosen person and
cuddle. He will melt even the most frozen heart. He isn’t really a fan of being picked up, but you
can get a quick snuggle for a minute or two before he starts to struggle. Although Maverick
enjoys new experiences, he tends to be nervous around new people and things, especially if
voices are raised or there are loud sounds. Although shy at first, he warms up once he is more
comfortable.

Like a tiny golden retriever, he loves to bring you a toy when you come home so you know that
he is happy to have you back. At night, he will collect all of his stuffies (one by one) and bring
them to the bed, arranging them in a straight line. It’s very cute to watch. Although not
particularly food motivated, he enjoys treats (even carrots) and will happily sit, lay down or stay
in exchange for one.

When Maverick arrived in foster care, he struggled with allergies, but they seem to be
controlled with diet alone. He will likely need to stay on a novel protein diet for the rest of his
life. That said, he may still have environmental allergies pop up in the spring. His adopters will
need to keep an eye out for symptoms and discuss treatment options with their vet at that
time.

Maverick is reactive to dogs, although it’s usually in support of his brother who is the instigator.
He will bark along with the other resident dogs in the house as well - he likes to be supportive
of others. Because he is a noisy boy, Maverick does need to live in a detached house.

Overall, Maverick (and his brother Sky) are the perfect pair for someone who loves the cuddly,
spunky nature of pugs. Maverick is quirky and smart. He learns routines well and will quickly
learn feeding time and when to go outside - plus he’ll bark if he needs to go out too! Sure, he
needs a family that is comfortable with his vocal support of his brother against dogs and

potential intruders, but Pugalug and his foster mom are happy to provide guidance on these
issues. The sweetness and love that Maverick will give his forever family

FOSTER UPDATE - NOVEMBER 4, 2025

Maverick has really come out of his shell since arriving in rescue 💛 He’s now great at letting everyone know exactly what he needs!

This past weekend was new stuffy day (unfortunately lamb chop was not built to last). He’s happily moved on to a new dinosaur stuffy 🦖 as his favourite. Maverick has also been “helping” with yard work — which mostly involves running laps around the yard with his brother and then pooping on the freshly raked leaves 🍂😂

He loves to meet new people in the house and on walks but always barks first. The barking time is slowly reducing and is due to excitement versus any kind of aggression. He also tends to be more wary of men than women.

Now that Maverick is comfortable in his foster home, he has become a very good eater. He is currently enjoying a novel protein food (kangaroo) and has had some relief from his allergies.

At bedtime, Maverick brings each of his stuffies onto the big bed one at a time — a process that takes about five minutes and is absolutely adorable 🥹 Sky waits until Maverick has all the stuffies in the bed and promptly steals them 😂

FOSTER UPDATE - OCTOBER 3, 2025

Maverick is doing great and showing his sweet, playful personality more each day! He’s loving his new kangaroo-based diet 🦘, which seems to have helped with some mild itchiness. This weekend he’s getting an oatmeal bath. Spa day for this handsome boy! 💦

Maverick is fully house-trained and prefers life on the couch, the bed, or a warm lap (no crate needed!). At night, he sleeps wrapped around his foster mom’s head before curling up with Sky as the night goes on. 💕

He’s doing well with short alone times — just a few seconds of barking before he settles down for a nap. Maverick enjoys walks up to about 35 minutes, and while he can sometimes react to other dogs, he’s easily redirected.

Playtime is his favorite part of the day! He and Sky proudly “borrowed” a giant Sasquatch stuffy from the resident dogs 🧸, are obsessed with their new Lamb Chop plush, and even swiped a motorized mouse toy from the cat — mischief mastered! 😆

At the vet, Maverick charmed everyone. He’s in great shape and didn’t mind anything except being apart from Sky. His vet gave him a great report and noted that the mild luxating patella in one leg doesn’t require any treatment, just monitoring as he ages.

This little guy is happy, affectionate, and full of love. A total snugglebug with a playful heart. ❤️

INTRODUCTION - SEPTEMBER 15, 2025

Introducing Maverick!

Meet Maverick, a handsome two-year-old fawn pug who has just joined our rescue! He and his best buddy, Sky 🐶, were recently surrendered by an owner who clearly adored and cared for them deeply ❤️.

Maverick is a sweet and curious boy who is starting to settle into his foster home. He’s already showing off his playful side, happily chasing leaves 🍂 and keeping his foster mom updated on all the interesting sounds outside 👀👂! He’s a smart pup and has been doing well on walks, especially with his buddy Sky by his side. He has met the resident cat and while they’re not yet friends, Maverick no longer feels the need to bark at it 👌.

There are no health concerns at this time, though Maverick will be visiting the vet for a routine check-up once he has had more time to settle in. For now, he is safe, cared for, and surrounded with love as he begins this next chapter.

We’ll be sure to share more updates on this charming boy as he gets more comfortable.
